Tap water is one of our most regulated food products. Clean, good-tasting water is something we often take for granted having access to from the tap at home. But what do we do if the tap water runs out, how do we save water at home safely in a water jug or PET bottle?
There are many different factors that can affect the quality of drinking water. It is well known that a film forms on the inside of containers when water is standing still. This film consists partly of microorganisms present in drinking water, and partly of substances that may have gotten into the water when we filled the water jug. Gradually, water quality will deteriorate depending on factors such as hygiene, the quality of the drinking water, the movement of the water, temperature, and sunlight. There are simply many factors that can affect water quality. Using Biocool's method for safe drinking water, you can safely store drinking water for up to three months with two simple steps:
- Clean your water jug with the product Biocool Clean my water tank. Containers slowly build up deposits, even if you regularly replace and refill with clean water. You may notice it as a smooth surface on the inside of the jug. When the product comes into contact with the deposit in the container, intensive cleaning begins. After 12h, the cleaning is complete, and dirt is flushed out of the system when you empty the water jug. You can now be sure you have a clean container to store your drinking water in, with no taste or odor in the container.
- Maintain the quality of your drinking water with the product Biocool Purify my drinking water. When the product comes into contact with water, large amounts of oxygen are produced, which maintains water quality. The oxygen in the water also gives it a good taste, just like the water we are used to from the tap at home! When you add the product to your container, you can also be sure you have clean water for three months that can be used for drinking, brushing teeth, and cooking.
Tips! When the above process is complete, it's time to store the drinking water. Place the water jugs in a spot that is as cool and dark as possible. This could be, for example, a basement, balcony, or closet. It also works well to fill PET bottles and put them in the freezer, but remember not to fill the bottle all the way to the top - there is a risk it will crack when ice forms.
What do I do with my water after three months? Water tastes best when it's cold and oxygen-rich. For the best taste, put water in the refrigerator before drinking it. But what should you do with your water after storing it for three months?
If you have access to clean drinking water from the tap, we recommend emptying the water jug, cleaning it, and refilling it with fresh tap water, and dosing according to the instructions. If you don't have access to fresh tap water to replace it with, dose again according to the packaging. This will keep the water safe to use.
If you don't have access to water you know for sure is intended for drinking, always boil the water for at least 3 minutes. This removes most microorganisms, but any heavy metals or radon will not disappear. Therefore, avoid drinking water that is not controlled and verified as safe drinking water.
